Day 40 Byron Bay – friends of a friend!

We will try this post in English, as a tribute to our hosts the last days.

A short photo recap from Yesterday.

Bye bye Gold Coast

The guys in front of us guided us through Coolangatta, and into New South Wales

We passed many beautiful places

Freshed up with a nude bath on the way (don’t worry, nobody else around)
We met a Japanese guy pushbiking from Sydney to Brisbane. Fully loaded with luggage.
Back to sugarcane fields and the countryside
Smile to the photographer. I’m even more tired than I look like..

……

A few weeks ago Jan got an e-mail from Helena and Donald. They are friends of a friend of Jan, and had heard about our trip. They offered to show us around Byron Bay when we arrived!

It turned out they not only wanted to show us around, their opened their home as we were their closest friends. We got presented each our bedroom, own bathroom, and got served a very nice dinner and chat during the afternoon/evening.

Helena and Don seem to have a big heart for both environment in general, and the well-being of Byron Bay in particular. They are heavily involved in development of the local community. Byron has only a few thousands of permanent residents, while the place is crowded with tourists, and the efforts to keep the small town  atmosphere is important for them.

We had good discussions about solar energy, skyscrapers and Donald Trump (among others), while the cute dog Jesica walked around (looking pretty much like Benjamin 🙂 )

We also found time to call our common friends, Knut and Astrid!

Today we had a nice breakfast, and then a guided tour in Byron. We got to see the place the Børresen’s will visit during their Christmas holiday here, and were dropped of at the beach, with a car at our disposal.

We walked the beach, including the beautiful walk up to the The Lighthouse, and passed on the way Australian most easterly point. Photosession there of course.

Our wonderful hosts!

Tonight we have, with good help from our hosts,  looked at the route going south, and have a pretty good overview for the next few days.

Plan A for tomorrow; continue south, hoping for the wind to turn around and blow us in that direction (but that’s not likely to happend). We aim towards Little India, approx 80 k away.
